The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) said that it was moving back to the main area of protest at Ratchadamnoen area after it failed to meet with Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to hand in its letter with its demands.
“The government has escaped to the Air Force base on helicopters and we now know their intentions although we wanted to hand in our demand letter in person to him,” Jatuporn Prompan said.
“If we follow him to Don Muang, he may escape somewhere else and therefore it is better if we go back and then hold a meeting on what to do from here on,” he added.
The UDD’s midday deadline to dissolve the house expired with the government rejecting its demands on a nationalized television address by the Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
Weng Tochirakarn, a core leader of UDD earlier said that once the government denied its request to dissolve the parliament before deadline, any uncontrolled cases may happen and UDD won’t take responsibility.
“We have offered the best choice to government. If Abhisit denied our proposal, some groups of protestors might not satisfy and any uncontrolled cases may be happened,” he said.
Earlier in the day the government has already said it would not heed to the demands of the UDD.
Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has come out to spurn the demands of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) saying that it was something that was not possible although his government would continue to talk with all parties in order to find a solution that would be satisfactory to all parties.
“The demands of the protestors to dissolve the parliament before noon, is something that we cannot do. This is a unanimous decision by the coalition members present at the meeting,” Mr. Abhisit said from the 11th Infantry Regiment in Bang Khen area of Bangkok which is in the process of being besieged by the UDD supporters.
