SIM focuses on smartphones and android 3G in 2012

Samart I-Mobile Plc (SIM), a leading manufacturer and distributor of mobile phones and smartphones, plans to sell more smartphones and android 3G in 2012, aiming to see 3.5 million sales in the country and 500,000 sales in foreign countries. Besides, it is negotiating to produce phones for entrepreneurs in the Philippines.

Dithaphon Chantraurai, the director of product department of SIM, said that this year the company would present new 40 generations of mobile phones; 30 out of 40 would be smartphones and android 3G. He expected that the market in Thailand would see 3.5 million sales, which the company targeted to see average price per mobile phone above 2,000 Baht from 1,500 Baht seen in last year.

Meanwhile, sales of mobile phones in foreign countries would be around 400,000 – 500,000, close to last year, but it would intensify higher price phones by selling more smartphones and android 3G as well as done in Thailand. As a result, mobile phones under I-Mobile brand were gradually going to enter Myanmar, apart from existing markets like Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos.

In addition, the company was negotiating to be hired to manufacture mobile phones to entrepreneurs in the Philippines; the conclusion of the talk would see in the first quarter of 2012. Previously, it had experienced manufacturing phones for customers in India.

SIM’s shares closed at 2.00 Baht a share on January 26, 2012.
