BTS Group Holding Plc (BTS), the administrator of BTS sky train service, believes the number of passengers will increase continuously from 2010 – 2012 as it saw an increase of passengers above its expectation during 2010 – 2011, and in 2012 the number will continue to rise due to real estate projects along BTS railways. Besides, it plans to add more bogies and buy new trains during 2012 – 2013.

Surapong Laoha-Unya, a director of BTS, said that during 2011 – 2012 passengers have increased sharply; during the first 10 months, from April 2010 – January 2011, there were almost 600,000 passengers per train per day, which increased by 19 percent and was above the target of 15 percent. Moreover, passengers increased to 700,000 per train per day in December 2011 after everything returned to normal from the flood situation during October – November 2011.

The company expects that passengers during 2012 – 2013, April 2012 – March 2013, will increase continually from the previous 2011 – 2012, April 2011 – March 2012, because the demand on travelling by electric trains is likely to rise in accordance with property projects along BTS railways plus the adjustment of oil prices. Meanwhile, in December 2012 the company will extend the route of electric trains from Wongwian Yai to Bang Wa by four stations. As a result, the number of customers will increase.

The company will present the business plan of 2012 – 2013 to the board’s meeting during February – March 2012; initially, this year will see new 12 bogies during the midyear, which will result as longer trains for its total 47 trains, and by late 2013 BTS will order another five trains, which is needed 1.5 billion Baht to spend.

BTS’s shares closed at 0.69 Baht a share on January 26, 2012.
